TradeZer0 is the broker I started using after I was mentally DONE with SURETRADER. I had a look how much money I have spent on commissions and their usual technical problems made me find a different broker. As I am using TWITTER a lot, from time to time I was seeing traders using TradeZero and liking the small commissions and MORE AVAILABLE shares for SHORTS. So I thought – why not, let’s give it a try.
OPENING AN ACCOUNT
This was easy peasy. I remember uploading all documents online. It was ID and proof of address. And it was confirmed next day. For SURETRADER it took me weeks to get confirmed, sent them documents couple of times.
WIRING – DEPOSITING MONEY
As I live in UK, I had to do International Wiring. TradeZer0 themselves are located in BAHAMAS, but account they have in US. To send money from UK internationally I got to pay 9 pounds just for transfer. So I sent them 452 POUNDS what is equivalent to $600. I was doing US DOLLAR transfer but at the end got $556. Incoming wire transfer fee is $30. I suppose that US bank got incoming wire transfer fee of about $14. So be prepared to that.
And I would recommend to top account with at least $1000, you just will be able to survive for longer.
TRADING PLATFORMS AND FEES
I was using ZEROPRO trading software what is DIRECT ACCESS SOFTWARE. I think it’s quite important for day traders.
When I first funded them I had $556 left in my account. The necessary $69 platform fee they deducted after my first winning trade. Straight away can see people care about their customers. If they would take of platform fee straight away(as they should do) i would be under $500 and wouldn’t be able to trade with 4:1 MARGIN.Â
They got 3 more platforms including ZEROWEB, ZEROFREE and ZEROMOBILE.
Platform Fees and Platform Comparison
If you coming to TradeZer0 from DAS TRADER PRO software you will probably find it difficult to get used to their charting. If this is your first broker then you should be fine. I just can’t get used to it and I used separate TC2000 charting software.
Platform itself is good.
Don’t expect it to be as fast as DAS TRADER PRO (suretrader).
COMMISSIONS AND FEES
If you come to TradeZer0 from SureTrader – YOU WILL FEEL DIFFERENCE.
Commissions is way more less than SureTrader’s.
Or you even can get FREE commissions if you are using Limit orders and don’t make an immediate match.
For example – If you buying AAPLÂ (ASK-188.15 BID-188) on price between BID and ASK price you will get free commission. It must be below ASK, no to make immediate match. Same goes on shorting.
Paid trades is $0.005 PER SHARE. If you trade 1000 shares – you got $5 in commissions. As for Suretrader it gonna be $10. IT’s HALF less.
Withdrawing fee is quite a BIG – $70
OTHER FEES
LEVERAGE
All stocks over $3 are marginable
Under $500 account balance leverage is 1:1
$500 – $2499 is 1:4
$2500 –Â Â Â Â Â is 1:6
EXECUTION SPEEDS AND HOTKEYS
First I can say, it not gonna have as fast executions as SureTrader.
When i started out with TradeZer0 I mostly was using market orders on HOTKEYS. I stopped using them after i had huge slippages. There was times I got filled like 3-5 seconds later and stock is just falling. So I stopped using MARKET ORDERS and jumped to LIMIT ORDERS.
Well, i had a lot of missed fills. Setup and plan was good, but i just didn’t get filled, that leaves you quite frustrated on the day.
I am not fast with mouse and typing in orders, that’s why I am using HOTKEYS.
That is just my experience. I am sure there is somebody who thinks different.
SHORTING AND BORROWS
This is where the GOLD is at.
If your broker don’t have shares to short – have a look in TradeZero 😉
They usually have hard to borrow stocks. Lately as they are getting more popular, share locates my disappear. You might need to wake up earlier to take them before somebody else does.
But usually as I am looking to SHORT all of these PUMP N DUMP stocks, there is shares in TradeZer0.
If you want to compare Available SHORTS with SureTrader – TradeZer0 definitely WINSÂ
Usually every low float play gets SHORT SELL RESTRICTED in SureTrader.
CUSTOMER SUPPORT
I liked it! Can’t say anything BAD about it. Just had some email chatting with them and I was satisfied.
Don’t have an experience by PHONING them.
On email messages usually responding in 2hr time.
Maybe some of YOU got experience with their CUSTOMER SUPPORT? Don’t be shy, leave in comments 😉
FINAL THOUGHTS
I like the COMMISSIONS and AVAILABLE BORROWS, but don’t like EXECUTION speeds. Maybe it’s just me.
Maybe You have different experience.
NO PDT rule makes this broker available to everybody.
I would recommend TradeZer0 to everybody who’s starting out. I remember when I started out with SureTrader, I gave away a lot of money in commissions. What could be half less or even more if I used TradeZer0 broker.
They have FREE TRIAL available, give it a try and you will see. I would recommend using ZERO PRO platform as software is more stable than web version.
If you liked this Review, don’t forget to SHARE it.
Would be interesting to hear YOUR experience with it too.
Thank YOU for attention!
07. OCTOBER UPDATE
Lately TZ is having a lot of issues. Not trading with them anymore, but have heard a lot of things – Late fills, no fills at all, can’t get out of position. But still they got the best borrows in market.
Make a good inspection before putting there money.
Year 2019. UPDATE
Recently TZ have updated their software and now it’s working better than ever before. You can read the new review HERE.
Hi there!
thanks for all the info! its really helpful,
I have one inquire, does trade zero also apply the margin restriction due to volatility?
Hey Matias! No there is no volatility restrictions like on SureTrader.
But you can’t use margin on stocks below $3, just your cash account value. (but it’s same as on suretrader)
Hi,
May I ask you: if stocks under $3 aren’t marginable, that means you can’t short stocks under 3$ (since you need a margin account to short , if I am correct .)
What trader are you using Now?
Thanks
Ron
Hey Ron!
You can short stocks below $3 but you cant use margin.
Stocks below $1 isn’t shortable.
I’m trading with the same TZ, they have updated it and seems it’s working better than before.
Thank you Janis,
Forgive my absolute ignorance : if you can’t use margin it means you can only use cash. Will that imply that your funds after you liquidate a position will settle in 3 busines days?
Is that the major difference when trading $1-$3 sticks or are there other major differences?
Again thanks a lot.
Ron
No, funds settle the next day.
Yeah, I think thats the only thing. You cant use margin on stocks below $3 and stocks below $1 isn’t shortable.
I hope this helps!
